FSW Radiologic Technology Program to Unveil New Energized Labs at Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Aug 13, 2025

AUG. 13, 2025 - FORT MYERS, FLA. – Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) School of Allied Health will unveil its three newly installed OMNERA 400T Digital Radiographic systems with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m. in Building A, 8099 College Pkwy., Fort Myers, FL 33919. The new lab advances the Radiologic Technology Program from non-energized simulation labs to fully functional X-ray rooms and represents a significant investment in healthcare education and the preparation of workforce-ready graduates. Funded through the State of Florida Conference Committee on Higher Education Appropriations, this initiative ensures students gain hands-on training in digital X-ray acquisition, positioning, and workflow—preparing them for clinical rotations and careers in medical imaging. “Students will have the ability to take radiographs of anatomical manikins and have the images critiqued for proper positioning and exposure factors,” said Rendy Petrin, program director. “By providing our Radiologic Technology students with advanced tools and real-world experience, we reaffirm our promise to produce compassionate, skilled professionals who are prepared to meet the evolving needs of our local healthcare systems and serve our community with distinction,” said Mary Catherine Faust, dean of the School of Allied Health. FSW has a history of partnering with Canon Medical, including prior installations of digital mobile X-ray systems. With over 25 years of expertise in digital detector technology and more than 75,000 detectors deployed globally, Canon Medical remains a leader in medical imaging innovation. “Supporting educational institutions like FSW is at the heart of our mission,” said John Serovich, Vice President, Ultrasound/X-Ray Business Unit for Canon Medical Systems USA. “The OMNERA 400T systems will empower students with the same advanced imaging tools used in hospitals today, fostering a seamless transition into the workforce.” Following the ribbon-cutting, guests are invited to tour the updated facilities and view equipment demonstrations led by current students in the program.
