Mission

The mission of the Social and Human Services Program is to provide the highest quality education to future and current Human Service Professionals with a learning environment that supports the development of culturally competent, compassionate and accountable professionals. The Program prepares graduates who are dedicated to the autonomy, dignity, and diversity of the people they serve.

The Community Health Worker College Credit Certificate (CCC) is a shorter program of study that consists of select courses from the Social and Human Services Associate in Science Program, Community Health Worker Track. The program is designed to prepare students for employment as addiction specialists (Social and Human Service Assistants) and (Community Health Workers), or to provide supplemental training for persons previously or currently employed in these occupations.

Program Highlights

The CCHW designation is an entry-level credential for front-line health workers who, by virtue of their trusted status in the community, serve as a liaison, link and intermediary between health services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.

The Social and Human Services Program is always looking for ways to enhance the students' learning experience. To provide the students with hands-on learning, Chip, an Animal Assisted Therapy Dog, joined the Social and Human Services team. Chip will be assisting with teaching courses and can be seen around campus participating in student support services.

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Human Services career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of aspects of the Human Services career cluster.

Course Prerequisites

This certificate requires HUS 1001 Introduction to Human Services or SOW 2031 Introduction to Social Work to be taken before HUS 2302 Techniques of Interviewing and HUS 2200 Dynamics of Groups and Group Counseling.
