Today’s enrollment milestone reflects growing demand for FSW’s affordable, career-focused education.

Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) has surpassed 17,000 students for the first time since 2011, giving FSW its third-highest enrollment in history. The milestone reflects continued demand for FSW’s affordable, career-focused education and the college’s role in preparing students for the workforce needs of the region.

“Reaching 17,000 students is a significant milestone for FSW, but more importantly, it reflects the confidence students and families have in the education we provide,” said Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Judith Bilsky. “Our faculty and staff are committed to providing students with high-quality academic programs and pathways that prepare them for what comes next. This growth tells us that more students are recognizing the value of an FSW education and choosing us to help them reach their goals.”

FSW offers 29 associate degrees and six bachelor’s degree programs in fields including nursing, technology, education and public safety. The college also offers workforce certifications, continuing education and study abroad opportunities through its campuses in Fort Myers, Naples and Punta Gorda, its center in LaBelle and FSW Online.

For FSW graduate David Heard, the education he received became the foundation for opportunities that extended well beyond the classroom. He earned both an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in operations management and supervision.

“FSW gave me more than a degree. It gave me the academic foundation and preparation to continue challenging myself,” Heard said. “The education I received at FSW opened doors professionally and gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities I may not have otherwise considered. Today, I’m using what I learned at FSW as I continue my education and build my own global sourcing business.”

After graduating from FSW, Heard earned a Master of Science in logistics and supply chain management from Florida International University and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration with a specialization in strategy and innovation.

For some, an FSW education serves as the foundation for continued education or professional advancement. For others, it provides a direct path into a high-demand career.

Many FSW graduates choose to build their careers in Southwest Florida, contributing their skills and earnings to the region’s economy. FSW alumni generate an estimated $430.1 million in annual economic impact through their work in the region, while the college’s overall annual impact on Southwest Florida reaches $563.1 million and supports 6,759 regional jobs.

“FSW is preparing students to do more than earn a credential,” said FSW President Jeff Allbritten. “We are preparing them for meaningful careers that meet the workforce needs of Southwest Florida. When our graduates stay here and put their education to work, the entire community benefits.”

FSW’s fall enrollment is now among the highest in its history, with only two previous years recording higher enrollment.
