The health and safety of our students, employees, and community is our top priority. Based on CDC guidelines and our commitment to slowing the spread of COVID-19, FSW will continue to serve students in-person and through expanded remote services.  For hours of operation and more information on ways to connect with us, please visit www.fsw.edu/remote/contact.  Please continue to follow the FSW communication channels for updates.

ORIENTATION INFORMATION:

  • FSW offers online and in-person Orientation sessions.
  • All Orientation sessions will provide the necessary information for you to be successful at FSW and begin your college journey.
  • All First-Time in College students are required to complete Orientation prior to being able to register for classes. First-Time in College includes incoming freshman and any graduating high school senior with previous dual enrollment credit from FSW.
  • Once you are Orientation ready, you will receive an email with a link to sign-up for an Orientation & Advising Session.

PLANNING TO START IN A DIFFERENT TERM?

If you applied within the last year and want to start classes in a different term than the one for which you applied (e.g. you submitted an application to begin in fall but now plan to begin in spring or summer), all you need to do is log back into your Applicant Portal and select the application you wish to update and click "Request Deferral to a Different Term" and select the term in which you would like to start.

If your application was submitted more than 1 year ago, you will have to submit a new application, but we'll waive your application fee! Just select the "AA/AS, Readmit" application when you apply.

Who needs to attend an Orientation & Advising Session?

All first-time in college students are required to attend an Orientation & Advising Session prior to being eligible to register for classes. First-time in college includes incoming freshman and any graduating high school senior with previous dual enrollment credit from FSW.

Not a first-time in college student?

Transfer and Transient (guest) students are not required to attend an Orientation & Advising Session and will not have an Orientation hold. As one of these students, you may; however, have an Advising hold that can be resolved by scheduling an appointment with an Academic Advisor after you resolve any holds other than Advising.

International students will receive specific instructions regarding Orientation from International Student Services.

Student athletes will receive specific instructions regarding Orientation from the Athletics Department.

How do I schedule my Orientation & Advising Session?

Students are able to schedule their Orientation & Advising Session using FSW's online scheduling system. As a first-time in college student, you will receive an email to schedule your Orientation & Advising Session once you have satisfied all registration requirements (called "holds"). This email will be sent to the email address provided on your application for admission to FSW and will be sent within 7-10 days of resolving any holds (other than Orientation and/or Advising Holds).

FSW does not assign Orientation dates to students. It is the students' responsibility to schedule their Orientation & Advising Session

Why haven't I received the email to schedule Orientation?

The email to schedule your Orientation & Advising Session will be sent to the email address you used to apply for admission to FSW within 7-10 days of resolving any holds other than Orientation & Advising. If you have not received the email within this timeframe, one of these other situations may apply:

  • You are a transfer or transient (guest) student.

    • More information can be found in the section entitled "Not a first-time in college student?"
  • Your registration holds are not resolved.

    • Visit the "View Holds" page in your FSW Student Portal to see if there are holds that need to be resolved. Any Orientation or Advising holds will be resolved at the Orientation & Advising Session.
  • You are checking the wrong email address.

    • This link will be sent to the email address you provided on your application for admission to FSW.

If you feel you should have received the Orientation & Advising Session registration email but cannot find it in your inbox or junk mail, please contact us at orientation@fsw.edu to have your file re-evaluated and the email resent if applicable. Please include your full name and student identification number to expedite your inquiry.
