What is Buccaneer Bound?
Buccaneer Bound is a 6-week summer bridge program designed for first-time-in-college students that provides a head start on your college education. Through a combination of academic coursework, personalized support, and access to college resources, participants gain the skills and network they need to thrive from day one at FSW.
Program Benefits
- NO OUT-OF-POCKET COST: You may receive a $1,000 scholarship that covers your summer tuition, fees, and books. ○ Scholarship availability is limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- PERSONALIZED SUPPORT: Plan for your next semester with academic advising, priority registration, and financial aid workshops. You'll build relationships with FSW staff and advisors before the fall semester rush, giving you a support network from day one.
- PEER NETWORK AND CAMPUS IMMERSION: Connect with your Buccaneer Bound classmates in a supportive, small-cohort environment where you'll learn together, navigate campus together, and build friendships that last throughout your time at FSW. You'll become familiar with campus facilities, student services, and resources—from the library to tutoring centers to financial aid—so you know exactly where to go when you need support during the fall semester and beyond.
- PROVEN SUCCESS: Buccaneer Bound students thrive at FSW—98% continue to the fall semester, and participants complete their first-year courses at higher rates than their peers.
Join a program designed to help you succeed—not just in your summer courses, but throughout your entire FSW journey!
Program Information
You’ll enroll in two courses during the Summer Mini-B session:
- Cornerstone Experience (SLS 1515), which is a course to help you successfully transition to college life by covering topics such as goal setting, career exploration, learning styles and strategies, and mental and physical health management.
- Mathematical Thinking (MGF 1130), a math course focused on solving problems in context, using realistic applications for students, and ultimately recognizing math as a human endeavor. This course is intentionally fast-paced and designed to build confidence and momentum for your college math journey. The small class sizes, dedicated instruction, and supportive cohort environment set you up for success—in fact, 97% of Buccaneer Bound students successfully complete this course.
Courses and other program scheduling will take place on campus, Monday – Thursday from 9:00am to 1:30pm. See the Official Academic Calendar for Summer Compact B term start and end dates.
