COVID-19 Updates for V.A. Students

Standard Post-9/11 GI Bill® rules state that if a student takes all of their classes online, any B.A.H. would be paid at the reduced rate of half the national average (currently $871 a month). As long as you take at least one residential (face to face) class, you would not be considered fully online and be paid at the full rate.

COVID-19 rules have changed that permits students to receive MHA at the resident rate, while taking approved converted (online) courses. This will end on December 21, 2021. When enrolling for courses in 2022 or any subsequent term, students will need to enroll in an approved residential class to continue receiving their MHA (BAH) at the resident rate.

The options that meet the VA criteria to be considered Residential:

• Traditional Residential class • FSW Blended • FSW Live Flex

By following these guidelines, our office can ensure that you have at least one class that meets the V.A. residential criteria and therefore will not be considered fully online.

You can search the class schedule by a particular instructional method. Click ‘Advanced Search’ and select the modality you want to look for within ‘Instructional Methods’. More detailed instructions here: fsw.edu/reconnect/coursedelivery.
