Science at Florida SouthWestern State College provides students with a strong, hands-on foundation in the natural sciences through rigorous coursework and immersive laboratory experiences. Students build essential scientific skills in biology, chemistry, physics, and related fields while learning core laboratory procedures, analytical methods, and data-driven problem solving. With flexible course options, integrated technology and opportunities to explore various research topics, FSW’s science offerings prepare students for both immediate workforce entry and seamless transfer into bachelor’s degree programs in a wide range of STEM disciplines. 

Degree Information

  • Earn the Associate in Science (AS) in Science and Engineering Technology (64 credits), with flexible course options in biology, chemistry and related fields. 
  • Gain a College Credit Certificate (CCC) in Scientific Workplace Preparation (26 credits) as a milestone toward the AS. 
  • Students can also pursue an Associate in Arts (AA) degree with a science focus, designed for transfer to a bachelor's program in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or related STEM fields. 

Our Course Features:

  • Lab science coursework including General Biology I & II, General Chemistry I & II, and Biology and Chemistry labs, all designed to grow essential scientific skills as well as learn procedures & analytical methods. 
  • Additional computational or computer literacy courses (e.g. CGS 1000 or 1100) integrated into the science curriculum to develop essential technology skills.
  • Specialized study tracks allow you to focus on at least two of the following areas: biology, chemistry, or physics, with options to deepen expertise through electives in fields like environmental science. 
  • Offers a flexible structure to specialize in multiple science disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, or explore geotechnology and engineering technology tracks.
  •  Prepares students both for immediate workforce entry and seamless transfer into other institutions bachelor’s degree programs in fields such as biological sciences, engineering, chemistry, physics, and environmental science. 
  • Provides a foundation in laboratory proficiency and scientific methodology, alongside communication and critical thinking skills valued by employers.
