Architectural Design and Construction Technology (AS)

The Associate in Science (AS) in Architectural Design and Construction Technology prepares students careers in the Architecture and Construction career field such as construction planners, contractors assistants, architectural assistants, construction engineering assistants, and other entry-level positions in residential and light commercial design, drafting, and job cost estimating.

Students learn how to draw and properly develop a set of working drawings of architectural and structural frames for buildings and other structures. Program emphasis is on residential design and light commercial structures and the use of details, rough sketches, specifications, building codes, materials used in construction, and cost estimating all with a focus on sustainability. Students also create Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings using industry standard software such as Revit™.

The program is designed for both full-time and part-time students. Courses are offered in an online and traditional formats to accommodate students’ varying schedules and learning preferences.

Earn Academic Credit for your Industry Certification

If you hold a valid industry certification earned within the last 3 years and have successfully completed at least 12 credit hours in the AS in Computer Programming and Analysis program, you may receive free academic credits toward the degree. Contact Albert Nault for more information.

Earn Academic Credit for Career Certificate Program

Career Certificate programs (previously known as a Postsecondary Adult Vocational Certificate) consist of a series of vocational and/or college credit courses that prepare students for entry level employment in specific career fields. Upon completion of the certificate program, students continuing their education in a related A.S. degree program may be awarded credit in selected A.S. degree courses. Continuing Toward a Baccalaureate Degree

There are many opportunities for more advanced education. Graduates of the AS, Architectural Design and Construction Technology Degree can matriculate into the BAS, Supervision & Management Degree at Florida SouthWestern State College or can pursue a Bachelor’s Degrees in Construction Management and other related areas at many colleges and universities located throughout the state and country.
