TODAY'S TOP TIP

Q: I have an assessment hold. How will I resolve it?

A: You may resolve the assessment hold by: Submitting your ACT/SAT scores earned within the last two years, OR Submitting coursework taken at another college or university OR credits earned via accelerated credit programs may satisfy the testing requirement, OR Requesting to Take a Placement Test through FSW at no extra charge.

Summer/Fall 2024 Placement Testing Deadlines

  • February 12, 2024: First Day to Placement Test for Summer/Fall 2024 Terms
  • April 15, 2024: Last Day to Placement Test for Dual Enrollment/Early College Students for Summer 2024
  • July 1, 2024: Last Day to Placement Test for Dual Enrollment/Early College Students for Fall 2024
  • May 20, 204: Last Day to Placement Test for First Time in College (FTIC) and Transfer/Readmit Students for Summer 2024
  • August 26, 2024: Last Day to Placement Test for First Time in College (FTIC) and Transfer/Readmit Students for Fall 2024

The Florida SouthWestern State College Testing Centers provide testing services at each of the four FSW locations: Charlotte, Collier, Hendry/ Glades, and Thomas Edison (Lee). The mission of each testing center is to provide optimal testing conditions by maintaining a comfortable, secure testing site. FSW Testing adheres to the NCTA Professional Standards and Guidelines.

Available Tests

Alternative Assessments

Effective Fall 2023, students may also resolve the Assessment Hold via Alternative Assessments. FSW utilizes alternative methods in lieu of the common placement tests (ACCUPLACER/P.E.R.T/ACT/SAT), to assess readiness for college-level communication and computation (F.A.C. 6A-10.0315(I)(2)). Student submitting Alternative Assessments in lieu of the common placement tests must self-identify. Click here for additional information regarding Alternative Assessments.

Florida Civic Literacy Exam

FSW students entering the 2021-22 academic year and thereafter are required to pass the Florida Civic Literacy Examination to demonstrate competency in civic literacy prior to graduation. The FCLE is available at all FSW Testing Center locations free of charge. Click here for additional information regarding the FCLE . Currently Approved Courses:

Proctored Exam Services for FSW Online Students

All FSW Online exam proctoring is conducted remotely using a fully-online service called Proctorio. This service is free to students and no scheduling is required!

Proctored Exam Services for Other Colleges/Universities

The Florida SouthWestern State College Testing Centers offer proctoring services for students taking courses at other Colleges and/or Universities. CLEP (College-Level Examination Program)

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program. More than 2,900 accredited institutions of higher education award credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP exams. Florida SouthWestern State College minimum passing scores and course equivalents can be located in the current college catalog under “Degree Acceleration Programs.”

FSW Testing is an approved DANTES site, which allow DANTES funded eligible examinees (military/spouse/civilian employees) to be exempt from paying the FSW CLEP administrative fee.

Free Online CLEP Courses:

Through the Modern States' Freshman Year for Free program, you can sign up for a free online CLEP course. Modern States is a nonprofit education alliance dedicated to college access for all, and its Freshman Year for Free program helps students earn up to one year of college credit without tuition or textbook expenses.

Modern States offers more than 30 high-quality CLEP courses taught by some of the world’s leading universities and professors. Each course is aligned to a CLEP subject and includes online lectures, quizzes, tests, and other features. Textbooks and materials are also provided online, free of charge. EAP (English for Academic Purposes Placement Test)

Students whose native language is not English or who have not graduated from a US high school and are interested in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program, are required to take the ACCUPLACER ESL tests to determine placement. Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) TestAdvanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) Test

To qualify for the Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) Test, a student must have achieved the following math scores: PERT (135+), ACT (25+), SAT (29+), Classic ACCUPLACER (109+), or Next Generation ACCUPLACER (270+). Students who have achieved these scores and wish to enroll in a course higher than Combined College Algebra/Pre-Calculus (MAC 1106) are eligible to take the Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) Test at any FSW Testing Center. There is NO RETEST opportunity for the AAF test. The Next-Generation Advanced Algebra and Functions test is a computer adaptive assessment of test-takers' ability for selected mathematics content. Questions will focus on a range of topics, including a variety of equations and functions, including linear, quadratic, rational, radical, polynomial, and exponential. Trigonometry Bypass ExamTrigonometry Bypass Exam

The Trigonometry Bypass Exam is required in order to bypass Trigonometry (MAC1114) and to be eligible to register for Calculus with Analytic Geometry I (MAC 2311). Students who have achieved a score of 276 or higher on the Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) test are eligible to take the in-house Trigonometry Bypass Exam. Pearson VUE

Pearson VUE Authorized Test Centers are third-party testing facilities which provide on-site testing for certification and professional licensure exams. Pearson VUE provides a full suite of services from test development to data management and delivers exams through the world's most comprehensive and secure network of test centers in more than 175 countries.

Florida SouthWestern State College is an authorized Pearson VUE Test Center. Pearson VUE testing is available at the Thomas Edison (Lee) Campus Testing Center located in Fort Myers. FSW's Thomas Edison Campus Testing is authorized to deliver all Information Technology exams for Pearson VUE.

Certification/Specialty Exams

The Florida SouthWestern State College Testing Centers offer proctoring services for students/individuals taking a certification/specialty exam that requires a proctor.

Microsoft Office Certification (MOS) ExamsMicrosoft Office Certification (MOS) exams

FSW students currently enrolled in CGS1100 or CGS2511 or who have completed either course in the previous three semesters are eligible to take the Microsoft Office Certification (MOS) exams. There are three exams available: Microsoft Word Associate, Microsoft Excel Associate, and Microsoft PowerPoint Associate. The exams are 50 minutes in length. FSW students enrolled in CGS2511 may also opt for the Microsoft Excel Expert exam. FSW students currently enrolled in ACG 2450 or who have completed the course in the previous three semesters are eligible to take the Intuit QuickBooks certification exam. The exam consists of six sections with a total of 50 questions and simulations. Students have three and a half hours to complete the exam. To pass the exam, you must receive a minimum of 75%. Before coming to campus to take these exams, you must create an account at Certiport (the testing site). Currently, the tests are at no cost to eligible FSW students. The exams are available at the Thomas Edison (Lee) Campus Testing Center only. Ground Course ADAptive Services (non-Proctorio) students who have completed the self-identification process with the Office of ADAptive Services may schedule testing appointments for their exams. Ground Course ADAptive Services (non-Proctorio) exams must be approved and submitted by your professor. Click here to register for a testing appointment (non-Proctorio testing only).

Chemistry By-Pass Exam

The Chemistry Bypass Exam (PDF) is used to bypass CHM2025L/2025. The exam is offered at all FSW Testing Center locations. Please email leetesting@fsw.edu or contact us at 239-489-9360 for an appointment.

Ground Course Make-up Exam (non-Proctorio)

Make-up exam services are offered at all FSW Testing Center locations. Make-up exams must be approved and submitted by your professor prior to us administering a Make-up exam. Click here to register for a Ground Course Make-up exam testing appointment (non-Proctorio testing).
